New rules for yellow card limit

  • Just missing a thread about this news that was posted on the website this weekend.

If I read this correctly, one will be out for the season if you get a 4th yellow card within your 10th season race.
Tho it feels like a harsh way to go, I guess this route might be best for the league.
It is very hard on split pot incidents, and the slightly less stable drivers.

My general advice surrounding this (for drivers):

    • It can worthwhile to skip on certain shorttrack races if you struggle with being around the cause of cautions. (sucks if you really like those..)
    • If you noticed you probably caused a caution, stop racing hard (or quit early), instead of racking up multiple yellow cards in one race. (might be common sense)
    • Same for driving with a damaged car, that can maybe swap ends on you. Is it worth the risk to stay out there and end your season?

All boils down to how much you value the season over one specific race. I personally would have like more one/multiple race bans instead of this hard season ban. Tho it would probably not delay a same kind of effect by much.

  • What I actually miss is the option for yellow cards to be applied when a race is ruined by an incident that did not bring out a caution.

It somewhat bothers me that it is deemed way less of an infraction if someone saves the car to not get a caution, but their race is still over. Since one can cause those incidents without ever racking up an exclusion from the season, or even a race. I believe in points penalties for some stuff, but it just won't discourage the kind of wreckless that does not cause a yellow card. That would not match up well with this early low yellow card limit tho.

Changed the title of the thread from “New rules for yellow flag limit” to “New rules for yellow card limit”.

I agree in principle, in the way that it is unfair that you get away with a much more lenient penalty just because the victim made a great save or got turned into the infield instead of the wall.

It is difficult to draw a line, though. Where would you start dishing out a harsher penalty even without a caution coming out?

Another example is the class A Richmond race. 6 points for dangerous driving/leaving the line but only 5 points for causing the big mess with a lot of drivers involved with damage on the last lap... Amazing.

The "problem" arose with drivers complaining about individuals which caused way too much havoc before beeing banned for the season. The feeling was that the "old" regulation had too much room for that, so it was clamped down a bit. Time will tell if it is too harsh right now, but nothing is written in stone. Constructive suggestions are always welcome.
